* Moved earlier because the scheduled day falls on a weekend or federal holiday (for example Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, 2026). SSI recipients get their January 2027 payment, with the 3.6% COLA, on December 31, 2026 because January 1 is a holiday.

Social Security pays in arrears: the payment you receive in a month is for the previous month. For example, the payment received in January 2027 is the December 2026 benefit, which is the first to include the 3.6% COLA.
Payment did not arrive? Wait three business days after your scheduled date before contacting SSA. Never give your account details to anyone who calls or texts claiming to fix a missing payment.
